WI meeting Jan 2019
Greetham Women’s Institute January 2019: 28 members and 5 guests were present at our January Meeting, with apologies for absence from Pat Ken- worthy, Estelle, Cathy and Janet Bianchi. There were birthday posies for Alison Kirby, Cathy, Janet Bianchi, Jayne, Pat Kenworthy and Lesley. Tea hostesses were Billie and Chris Parkin. Carol Fairbairn gave a talk “A Pas- sion for India”. She described a three week holiday visiting many amazing places starting at the city of Amritsar with its glorious Golden Temple and the tragic site of the Jullianwala Bagh massacre. Other places included the world famous Taj Mahal and Shimla, described in its heyday as the “Summer Capital of British India”. Her visit ended with the Ranthambore Na- tional Park where she was able to see wild tigers. The talk was accompa- nied by fascinating photographs, not only of the famous places but also of typical Indian street scenes, including the many forms of transport in use, from camels to little puttputts - used as anything from school buses to farm machinery. The talk gave us a wonderful insight into what was clearly an amazing holiday. Next month’s meeting will be on 11th February, when Katie Crowe will give us advice on “Wardrobe Detox”.
